This gold filled shoot was a creative collaboration with New Orleans’ own U Get Made, glam child of Monique Simon. I think we stalked each other on Model Mayhem for a good while before she reached out to me. Our model for the day was the beautiful Allyssa Winn. This was her FIRST actual photoshoot.
I learned a lesson during this shoot and it is that I shouldn’t stick so tightly to my shoot list and be aware of the sun creeping in to my shots through the blinds. I turned my strobes off and photographed the model with stripes of sunlight stretching across her face. Those shots ended up being some of my favorites.
Then, I shot with strobes while letting in the ambient light from the windows.
Monique made that amazing chest piece. That woman has endless amounts of creativity and a craft closet…no, TWO craft supply closets as deep as the wardrobe to Narnia.
Here are a few shots of Monique at work. What you can’t see is her purple hair. BRIGHT PURPLE HAIR. That’s a future post.
Here is Monique applying that amazing sequin chest piece onto Allyssa.
This was my first time using my gold sequin backdrop too! I absolutely LOVE it.. Just a few yards of sequin fabric from JoAnn’s. I wonder how the black sequin would photograph?

If you book her to do your makeup, be sure to ask her about Dave Bautista.
