In mid- 2016, I ran a drawing with local beauty salon, About Face of New Orleans. Entrants got a chance to win a portrait session and a complimentary 8×12 inch print from me. The winner was the beautiful Megan.
She had just found out that she was pregnant and opted to push the shoot to November, when she’d be seven months along in her pregnancy.
Sooo, six months later, she came to my home studio to do her maternity session. She brought three cute and simple outfits and one glamorous sequin gown. I love anything with sequins!!!
After a quick chat about product and ordering options, Megan sat and enjoyed a full makeover by one of About Face’s talented artists.
Then on to her Maternity Portrait Session.
We started with her super comfy yoga outfit and even took a few shots in my backyard. Megan was such a good sport and sat down in the grass for me.
She was so self-conscious about her arms in her little black dress. But I told her that’s what correct posing is all about and urged her to let me get a few images without her shawl. I’m glad she trusted me because one of her favorites was one of her with out the shawl. In fact, during her reveal/order session, she skipped over the images with the shawl because she was totally satisfied with the ones without it. Haha!
I was most excited about her sequin gown! After I got some beautiful photos of her inside, we ventured back outside. I had to have her twirl in the sunlight in this gown.
And then back inside. We still had time for one more outfit. We opted for this baby blue dress with a scalloped hem line. This is where I decided to get a few portraits focusing on just her as a woman and not only a mother. She wasn’t interested at the shoot, but she did end up ordering one. 🙂
Megan brought her mother with her to the reveal/ordering session. Her mother gushed over every photo. In the end, they were able to narrow down to ten portraits.
She admitted that had she not won the drawing or a complimentary shoot, she would not have even thought about doing a Maternity Portrait Session. But she’s glad that she had the opportunity and did it. So am I!
I think every woman should get portraits taken to celebrate this time in their lives. It’s so very special and amazing that women can give life and it needs to be documented. Plus, I think pregnant women are adorable!
